The Bishop Cotton School in Shimla is straight out of Harry Potter. This is the Hogwarts of India. Boys grades 3-12 wearing blue and navy uniforms and their teachers in black robes (!) walked quickly through the manicured lawns. The headmaster, Mr. Robinson, gave us an overview of the school’s policies, schedule, and demographic before dictating a short tour of the campus to one of his assistants.
Of the 500 boys enrolled, around 80 are from other countries including Canada, the U.S., and Australia. Instruction is in English and the schedule is designed to keep the boys busy so that they are not still energetic after lights out.
A sign in his office reads: “If you are busy without business, this is not the place for you.”
