Dinner in Chennai

After a day of sight-seeing with another one of the coolest women in India (there are so many), the program set us up at the homes of former Fulbright recipients for dinner in Chennai. For whatever reason, I was expecting a quiet table with quiet hosts and academic conversation. Needless to say, our evening was nothing like that. Our host Sridevi (Shree Devi), an energetic 47-year old principal, invited the neighborhood over for a party. Besides Jacklyn and me, her guests included two classical dancers, an herbal doctor and yoga teacher, a neighbor who only speaks Tamil, and a television host of the equivalent to MTV Tamil. It was a blast. We ate dinner with our hands. The food was great (not too spicy). And there was almost no talk about school.
We missed Clinton because she was staying at the OTHER Taj Hotel.  I'm serious.
